Girard Tankless Water Heater Error Code E5

Girard Tankless Water Heater Error Code E5

Girard Tankless Water Heater Error Code E5 means blower motor failure. It means the control board defects no motor signal before ignition or during normal operation. This fault code will appear on the display because of a faulty motor or defective wire connections in the motor.

Other reasons that could cause the E5 code to trigger are:

  • Faulty CN1 wire connection at the control board
  • Debris in the blower assembly
  • Defective control board

Below, I will show you how to reset the E5 code on your Girard Tankless Water Heater. Without further ado, let’s dive in.

How To Fix Girard Tankless Water Heater Error Code E5?

Follow these steps to erase error code E5 from the User Control Panel:

  • Inspect the CN1 wire connection at the control board. Gently pull the wire to ensure its integrity. If it seems loose, tighten the wire connection at the control board.
  • Remove the front panel to access the blower assembly. Check the blower assembly and ensure there is no debris buildup. If yes, release the blockage from the blower assembly to let the motor spin freely.
  • Verify that you have good power and ground. Older linear converters can make it challenging for the control board to deliver proper power to the motor.
  • If the motor has no continuity, replace the motor.
  • Lastly, go forward to replace the control board if the CN1 wire connection is good and the water flow icon is on- but the motor isn’t operating.

How Does The Blower Motor Work?

Your Girard Tankless Water Heater has a 4-wire variable-speed brushless motor. It operates with a 24VDC pulse width modulation system. It means there is voltage at all four wires on the CN1 plug with or without the motor running.

When you turn on the hot water faucet, the water flow symbol (showerhead) appears on the UCP. Then, the control board checks the thermal sensor or thermistors for proper operation. Based on the signal, the control board turns on the motor and creates a 24VDC pulse width modulation power to the motor.

If the blower motor is at fault, the control board will fail to produce enough power to turn on the motor. Besides, a faulty wire connection on the CN1 plug will cause the blower motor to fail. The error code E5 on the UCP is the output of a defective blower motor.

What is the E4 code on a Girard Water Heater?

The water inlet temperature probe is at fault- this is what the E4 code indicates on a Girard Water Heater. Due to an internal failure to the temperature probe, your tankless water heater will give this fault code.

How do I winterize my Girard Tankless Water Heater?

You can winterize your Girard Tankless Water Heater by following two winterization methods. They are:

  • Compressed air method: This procedure will involve draining all the water out of the water heater. Then, you should use compressed air to purge the remaining water from your system.
  • RV anti-freeze method: You should fill your RV with non-toxic anti-freeze to winterize your water heater.

End-Note

Blower motor failure is what the error code E5 resembles on the Girard Tankless Water Heater. The unit will give this fault code if the wiring in the motor is at fault or the motor itself gets defective.

Follow the troubleshooting steps I recommended and have the E5 code reset. If the error code persists after trying the mentioned remedies, contact the Girard Tankless Water Heater Customer Service.
