Fogatti RV Tankless Water Heater Error Code E1 means ignition failure. Your RV Tankless Water Heater won’t ignite because of one of the following reasons: 

• Lack of gas supply
• Improper Gas Type
• Improper gas pressure
• Faulty igniter or igniter connector
• Improper voltage between the brown and the black wires

Fogatti RV Tankless Water Heater Error Code E1 [5 Reasons & Solutions]

Here are the 5 common reasons responsible for the error code E1 on RV Tankless Water Heater. 

1. Lack of Gas Supply

An adequate gas supply is a must for proper combustion. If your RV tankless water receives an insufficient gas supply, it won’t ignite. The following reasons are responsible for the insufficient gas supply to the unit: 

• The gas valve isn’t fully open
• Restricted gas inlet

How To Fix: 

Ensure the gas is flowing to the unit continuously. Check the gas valve and ensure you open it to let the gas flow through the unit freely. 

Second, check the gas inlet and verify it doesn’t get restricted by a rubber gasket. Remove the rubber gasket from the gas inlet and screw the hose again. 

2. Improper Gas Type

If you feed your tankless water heater with improper gas, the burner won’t ignite. 

Check the rating plate at the side of the tankless unit and see what gas type it recommends to fuel the water heater. If it says Propane, feed the burner with propane. 

3. Improper Gas Pressure

Improper gas pressure is also a must to ignite the water heater. If the gas pressure is out of specification, the unit won’t come on or ignite the burner. 

You should measure the gas pressure to determine whether the pressure is within specification or not. 

Attach a manometer to the test port on the right side of the board. The gas pressure should be 1.5″ W.C on low heat. On high heat, the pressure should be  7″ W.C. 

I recommend you call a certified technician to measure and adjust the gas pressure. 

4. Faulty Ignitor or Igniter Connector

A defective igniter or loose igniter connector is also responsible for ignition failure. 

Generally, the igniter gets faulty due to corrosion. Plus, it will never participate in the ignition process if its probe gets covered with dirt & debris. 

Lastly, a loose igniter connector is the culprit that prevents the unit from turning on. 

How To Fix: 

Unscrew the front panel of your RV tankless water heater and locate the igniter. This is what the igniter assembly looks like: 

Pull the igniter connector towards you to see how tight it is. Unplug the connector and plug it in tightly if it seems loose. 

Next, remove the screw that holds the igniter in place and remove the connector to pull out the entire assembly. Now, clean the buildup that forms on the igniter. If it seems fragile, get a new igniter assembly and install it. 

5. Improper Voltage Between The Brown and The Black Wires

A loose or improper voltage on brown and black wires is responsible for ignition failure. You can find this wiring at the bottom right side of the control board. 

Unplug the wire connector and pull on the brown and black wiring. Visually inspect the wiring and plug the connector back in. 

Next, check the voltage between the brown and the black wire during the ignition trial. The voltage should be 12VDC.
